Have you check out the granola in stores? I don’t know about you, but I’m less than impressed. They’re often loaded with unnecessary sweeteners and fat. Some even have some scary chemicals in the ingredient list. That’s why I usually make my own granola. When you see how simple and easy it is, I’ll bet that you will too! Mine is full of good-for-you ingredients and is very natural. Yes, I do keep it pretty simple, but you can feel free to change up my basic recipe to your liking.
This recipe is extra delicious on some organic fat-free Greek yogurt with some fresh berries!
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees
3 cups old fashioned rolled oats
¼ cup almond slivers
1 tablespoon flax seed
1 tablespoon flax seed meal
1 tablespoon chia seed
1 tablespoon wheat germ
2 tablespoons real maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and spread out evenly on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for approximately 25 minutes. Allow to cool before storing in a container. I prefer to store mine in a glass jar. Doesn’t everything taste better in glass?
Feel free to adjust this recipe to your liking using different nuts such as walnuts or pecans. If you like coconut flavor, add some shredded, unsweetened coconut for a lovely tropical, toasted taste. I’m not a fan of dried fruit in mine, but throw it in after you bake it if you like. Consider this recipe your canvas!
